The activity of creating and reforming the state environmental management bodies in the Minsk region dates back to 60-70 years of the 20th century. In 1961, the Minsk Regional Inspectorate of the State Committee for the Conservation of Nature of the Council of Ministers of the Byelorussian SSR was created to preserve, restore and enrich natural resources and monitor their rational use.

In 1988, as a result of the abolition of the Minsk Regional Inspectorate protection of nature (the decision of the Minsk Regional Council of People’s Deputies of 26.11.88 No. 135 «On measures for a radical restructuring of the field of nature conservation in the region») was formed on The Regional Nature Protection and Environmental Protection Committee has been established in the districts of the region. The Minsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection currently includes 6 departments and 22 regional inspections of natural resources and environmental protection.
